'Creating Untitled' at Pallant House Gallery!

Portrait of Holocaust Survivor Gena Turgel MBE

As part of an exhibition called 'Creating Untitled' at Pallant House Art Gallery in Chichester, we will be presenting some artwork based on our experience of visiting Auschwitz. Our pieces of art will be based upon our main message of 'individuality'. The portrait on the left, created by Merryn Kerrigan, is one of Gena Turgel a Holocaust Survivor and is created solely out of her name in pencil. We are excited to create more portraits and other art just like this one. If you live near Chichester come down to Pallant House Gallery to see some of our Auschwitz Artwork, the exhibition takes place 22 April – 27 April 2014.

Wear your own Shoes to School Day Memorial Board

On Friday 14th February, we completed a huge section of our Next Steps project which was a Memorial Display Board presenting a huge number of pictures taken on our 'Wear your own shoes to school day' on Holocaust Memorial Day of this year. We raised over £600 for the Holocaust Educational Trust whilst promoting our main message that "Numbers are important, it is the individual lives that we should remember."

We are extremely proud of this event and are pleased that the culmination of all our ideas came together to create a successful day.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2014

After visiting Auschwitz in November the main message for us came from seeing over 25,000 pairs of the victims shoes. Today, Holocaust Memorial Day, we ran a “wear your favourite shoes to school” day. Each pupil (and teacher) wore their own shoes representing individuality showing that this is something to be valued. Every person is unique and we must recognise that in today’s society. We need to learn from past mistakes to ensure a crime such as the Holocaust will never take place
again.

This is a photo of some of the shoes
worn by pupils on the day!

About this blog...

This blog is for Imogen and Merryn’s Next Steps project after visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau on a one-day visit with The Holocaust Education Trust.
After participating in the Lessons From Auschwitz Project on 12/11/13, we have set up this blog in order to discuss our reactions and to increase awareness of the Holocaust and also the modern day relevance which can be linked to the Holocaust. This is the first Blog post of many, we hope that you will learn and enjoy the posts and begin to understand more of the horrors of the Holocaust.
